May 27-30, 2002

Ed, Jibin, and I decided to spend a few days in the beautiful Yosemite National Forest for vacation.  We all took days off from whatever we were doing to get back in touch with mother nature.  We decided to hike the high sierra loop, which we started in Tuolemne Meadows through Glen Aulin.  We knew we were in for a great, enduring trip, but at one point we thought we were going to die in the woods.  Ha ha ha...actually it wasn't very funny.

=]

Friday Morning.  We are well on our way to a nice weekend in the woods obviously.  We are busy packing our bags.  We are not sleeping in.

We all thought it would be a good idea to start the trip off with a ritualistic shaving.  Ed's first!

"What the hell are you doing with that trimmer?"

Ed: "I like it!  It gives me that clean, sophisticated look."

Me and Jibs: "...ummm...I don't think we have time to do ours...let's go!"

So after some packing and preparation, we were off.  During the entire drive, I was unable to keep my mouth shut due to the excitement...

...literally!

And we're off!

Early in the trip, Jibin started brandishing his hunting knife....

Ed:  "What the heck are you supposed to do with that?"

Jibin:  "...uhh...I dunno actually...I think it's sharp so I could kill stuff."

Ed:  "Ohhhh...like slit somebody's throat?  Let me demonstrate"

Yeah...something like that.

And that's how we almost died on the first day.

During the hike, of course, we ran into some difficult areas...

Ed and Jibin were smart and simply went around it.

First break!

...serious break...

Ed: "Omigod!"

Jibin: (In a very cool voice) "What is it?"

Ed:  "I missed the season finale of Friends!"

While resting, Jibin scrounged through our bags and stole our food while we weren't looking.

Me:  "Man I'm getting a little hungry."

Jibin: "...not me..."

The waterfalls, needless to say, were amazing.

Me:  "Ed...whatcha doin?"

Ed:  "I'm trying to start the friggin' stove so we can eat!  Why isn't Jibin ever hungry??"

Me:  "I dunno.  So what do we do after we heat the food?"

Ed:  "Here...let me show you!"

Mmm Mmm good!

That's me, Jibin, and Ed in "cozy" mode.

Somehow throughout the course of the night, a monster had attacked and devoured Jibin's hair:

Oh the humanity!

Although you can't hear it, I'm screaming like a little girl because the water was so frickin' cold!

Ed:  "Look at how strong I am!!"

Pshh...I win.

...this picture describes itself.

By the second day of our hike, we had arrived at an elevation such that the entire path was covered in snow.  Since the trail had opened just the day before, we eventually got lost from the intended path and actually thought we were going to die in the woods.

So we had to find a dry patch of land for the night, and we set up camp.  Due to the cold, we decided to set up the tent for some protection:

By the following morning, we were refreshed and found a renewed sense of vigor.  We decided to just head straight south.

Before heading out, I found Ed meditating on the long day ahead:

I was in a state of total admiration watching him concentrate, focus, determined to go home...

...that is until he got up:

I found, much to my surprise that he was concentrating and focusing on something totally different.

That's me sucking on the water tube.

That's Ed trying to suck on something else.

Waittaminute...did I miss the season finale of Friends too??

We eventually found our way to the main road and decided to chill a bit at the lake...

Both of us are pondering the situation between Ross and Rachel.

The real karate kid.

After finally retrieving the car, I started looking immediately for food:

Jibin:  "I don't know why you're so hungry...I feel fine!"

The rest of the pictures are for "ooh" and "aah" value...nothing more:
