Well I went ahead and did it...got myself a nice used 3rd
generation RX-7 and pretty much giggled myself silly.

|
The basic specs:
1993 Vintage Red RX-7
with ~ 47K miles (when I got it in December 2000)
1.3 liter two-rotor engine with twin-sequential turbochargers
This is my idea of a pure, no compromise sports car with the
flexibility to dominate any track out there, be it the drag strip, the most
grueling road races, and the local autocross. It's 2700 pounds of car with
all the excess fat trimmed off. It handles like a dream, and the
acceleration starting all the way from 2500 RPMs (the point of full boost on the
first turbo) through 4500 RPMs (the onslaught of the 2nd turbo spinning in
sequence) gives an exhilarating rush that still puts a smile on my face like I
was a kid again.
Oh wait...I am a kid.

Sadly, I haven't grown up at all and still need toys to throw
on...I expect to be throwing on a bunch of suspensions mods in the future to be
more competitive in the local autocrosses. (I run ASP street tire).
In order to curb my desire to play with the car constantly, I
remedied it by finding another car to play with. (See Project
Cobra)

UPDATE: 12-10-2004
Well the car's gone through quite a few changes since
originally writing this, and here's a new page with
pics taken by my good friend Scott. The car recently dynoed with
Steven Kan at Gotham Racing at
315rwhp on 12 pounds of boost on old stock turbos, and I have an A'PEXi RX6b
single turbo upgrade sitting in the garage. I recently went through a huge
rebuild of the motor that included a streetport with 3mm seals from Rick
Soderberg at Rotary Performance
in Pleasanton, an additional oil cooler from an R1 (temps never got past 90 at Infineon
last week!), an A'PEXi Power FC, upgraded injectors and fuel pump, ACT
Prolite flywheel (9.5 lbs), new gauges and stereo headunit, Zeitronix
ZT-2 wideband hooked up to the PFC for datalogging, HKS Twinpower ignition
amp, stainless steel midpipe, some new wheels/tires - 17" Koenig Villains
(front: 17x8.5 wheels with 235/45 tires, rear: 17x9.5 wheels with 275/40 tires),
blah blah blah...
